　　江南第一状师“荒唐镜”潘镜全（张国强 饰）是横霸清心县的“状棍”，平日巧舌如簧、颠倒是非，县内无人不识，连县老爷也忌他三分。教书先生章四维（郭晋安 饰）为人正义，信奉孔学，最大理想是“天下无讼事”，对潘镜全平日所作所为极为不齿。
　　章四维无意中揭破了潘镜全之子潘尔名的秘密，潘镜全深感颜面无存，用尽手段报复四维。就在四维企图轻生时，一名女子误打误撞救了正欲上吊的他。自称叫“何慧真”（田蕊妮 饰）的女子从此以“恩人”自居，暂住在孔子学堂。伶牙俐齿的何慧真与守旧迂腐的章四维，就此成了欢喜冤家。县内突然出现一批名贵藏品，其主人原来是消失了二十年的名状陈梦吉。这个曾与潘镜全针锋相对的名状会现身吗？来历不明的何慧真，其真实身份又是什么？
