志颖（郑嘉颖 饰）是个家庭背景复杂的香港青年，因为自幼丧母，父亲酗酒，他表现得非常不羁，好像没有了人生目标。而加恩（周丽淇 饰）则是纯洁的女生，未试过恋爱滋味，却对之憧憬向往。加恩与志颖的结识，是因着一个小误会。但很快加恩就发现，自己好像爱上了面前这个显得有点坏坏的男生。一次加恩遇上了被人追打的志颖，把其救回他的家中加以照料，自此友谊渐深。 经历了段段波折，志颖和加恩与另外一对友人一起，在许愿树下结成情侣。加恩也渐渐得知志颖身后的秘密，感谢他因为自己而努力改变，没有理会旁人对志颖的偏见。然而，误会却总爱缠绕热恋中的人。志颖被指加害前女友，并贪走了她户口的一大笔钱。志颖被困在迷局里，别人都更认定他本质不良，而此时加恩决定将此事弄个水落石出，看自己是不是爱错了人。
该剧改编自2002年日本同名电视剧，讲述了被称为怪物的危险男人武英与和拥有着伤痛的女子真江之间的浪漫故事，以及和真江哥哥镇国之间的纠葛 。

山河燃烧是NHK于1984年1月8日～12月23日制播的第22部大河剧，全51回。 原作是山崎丰子的｢两个祖国｣，是继1980年狮子的时代后，第二度以虚构人物做为主角。故事以日系美国人第二代兄弟为中心，描写其友人与家族在太平洋战争被分裂的悲剧。原作在执笔时取材相当严谨，内容提及日中战争与远东国际军事法庭等史实时都做过采访考证。故事的时代背景与和山崎女士另一部作品大地之子接近，类似于记实小说。是大河剧第一次以昭和时期为主题的作品，也是大河剧“近现代三部作”（另外两部是翌年的“春の波涛/春之波涛”、再翌年的“いのち/命”)里的第一部。
