タイトルには魔法少女とあるが魔法少女アニメではなく、魔法少女であるくるみが敵と戦う様子をただ傍観している男子中学生3人を主人公としたギャグアニメである。公式のジャンルは「魔法少女傍観系ギャグアニメ」。 アニメ本編は隔週で配信されており、本編の翌週には声優陣によるオーディオコメンタリー番組「せいぜいがんばれ！魔法少女くるみの中の人」を10分枠で配信。
