　　Michael is a successful actor, but he has a scandal in his past: at a tender age he knifed his father to death. He and his girlfriend Deborah go to his mother's for the weekend, and are joined by the director and others from a recent film project, who are given a rather cool reception by the superstitious housekeeper Oliver. Soon rude things begin happening to some of the guests, and Michael fears a repeat of his nightmare past is in progress

　　When William Gridley arrives from the US in London, he rents part of Carly Hardwicke's house from her and promptly begins to fall in love. Gridley doesn't know that many people think she killed her husband but his boss, the American ambassador, knows and doesn't take this "lapse of judgement" lightly. Since Carly is also American, Gridley saves his job by introducing her to the ambassador, who is promptly smitten and promises to help her. So when a Scotland Yard detective arrives, wanting to get to the truth one way or another, they say they'll help him. And then the comedic complications really begin.

　　A man named Salem escapes from an insane asylum where he was confined for an axe-murder. Falsely convicted under a plea of "guilty due to insanity", he does not plan to let his sister and her husband forget that they were responsible for the murder of a farmhand and for his cruel imprisonment in the asylum.

　　Middle-aged banker Arthur Hamilton is given the opportunity to start a completely new life when he receives calls from his old friend Charlie. The only problem is that Charlie is supposed to be dead. Hamilton is eventually introduced to a firm that will fake his death and create an entirely new look and life for him. After undergoing physical reconstruction surgery and months of training and psychotherapy, Hamilton returns to the world in the form of artist Tony Wilson. He has a nice house in Malibu and a manservant, a company employee who is there to assist him with his adjustment. 　　女记者瑞秋（凯特·贝金赛尔 Kate Beckinsale 饰）从线人处获得了一份情报涉及政府一次相当不光彩的行为。在丈夫雷（大卫·休默 David Schwimmer 饰）支持下刊登了这起新闻报道。政府最终以泄露国家 机密的罪行将瑞秋推上被告席，主审该案件的则是自负的检察官帕顿（马特·狄龙 Matt Dillon 饰）。在法庭上，面对帕顿的层层逼问，瑞秋坦然地叙述了整个事件的前前后后，公众心中的天平也开始往瑞秋方面倾斜，但是艾伦坚持要求瑞秋必须说出资料的提供者是谁，瑞秋逐渐地陷入进退两难的境地。艾伦开始向舆论和瑞秋的家人施加压力，而雷也渐渐地抵抗不住国家给予的压力，建议瑞秋屈服于国家。但瑞秋向雷表达了自己的坚持：真相至上。

　　中年男子村木哲郎（寺田农 饰）所有的出版社因经营不善倒闭，拖欠黑社会的高利贷无法偿还，妻子良子（志水季里子 饰）因此遭受黑社会的强暴。自暴自弃的村木决定自杀，在此之前他找来年轻的应召女郎土屋名美（速水典子 饰），对其进行粗暴的凌辱。村木原打算强迫名美一同赴死，但在最后时刻打消了念头。
　　两年后，村木当上出租车司机，辛苦打工还债，与良子的关系则若即若离。某晚，名美乘坐村木的出租车，并企图在海边自杀，最终为村木救下。此时的名美正因和上司太田（益富信孝 饰）的不伦之恋而烦恼，村木的出现再一次改变了她的生活……
