　　武泽竹夫（阿部宽 饰），绰号“老武”，人过中年的他是一个有着丰富经验的职业欺诈师，他与貌不惊人并且反应迟钝的入川铁巳“老铁”（村上昭二 饰）不打不相识，将后者引入行与自己结为搭档，穿行于都市的各个角落，银行、赛马场、当铺随处可见他们行骗的身影。拥有不堪回首过去的二人相互扶持，在底层过着不咸不淡的生活。某天，这对搭档与姐妹花河合八寻（石原里美 饰）、河合真寻（能年玲奈 饰）以及男孩石屋贯太郎（小柳友 饰）的人生发生交集。五个人生处于最底层的人，组成了一个略显别扭的临时家庭，他们朝着人生的转折点携手前进……
　　本片根据2011年直木赏得主道尾秀介的同名原著改编。

　　北宋年间，辽国兵马在耶律原（邵兵 饰）的率领下大举入侵中原，当今圣上着杨业（郑少秋 饰）和潘仁美（梁家仁 饰）两位重臣出兵抗辽。谁知潘仁美公报私仇，于金沙滩一役临阵撤兵，致令杨业陷入重围，困于两狼山城。杨家有子七人，依次为：延平（郑伊健 饰）、延定（于波 饰）、延光（周渝民 饰）、延辉（李晨 饰）、延德（林峰 饰）、延昭（吴尊 饰）和延嗣（付辛博 饰）。虽然前路凶多吉少，但为了营救父亲杨家七人依旧冒险出征。然而此一战凶险非常，一方面耶律原势要报当年杀父之仇，屠尽杨家父子；另一方面潘仁美作壁上观，意欲置杨家于死地而后快。

翁山苏姬3岁时，其父亲翁山带领缅甸走向独立，其后遭行刺身亡。

翁山苏姬长大后移居英国，与一名大学教授阿里斯结婚，生活美满。直至她的母亲病危，昂山素姬才回到她的祖国缅甸。

翁山苏姬到医院探望母亲时，遇见很多在8888民主运动中遭缅甸军队镇压而受伤的人，这事激发起她的政治抱负。她明白自己身为翁山的女儿，理应带领缅甸人民争取自主，并开展政治活动。

翁山苏姬成立全国民主同盟参与选举，并获国会大多数议席，但军方拒绝交出权力，反而决定要完全控制翁山苏姬。军方拆散翁山苏姬的家庭，把她软禁家中超过10年，并禁止她的丈夫和两名儿子入境。但他们在境外争取国际对翁山苏姬认可，因为这样才能保证她不会被忘记，也不会无声无色地失踪。

比尔（布鲁斯·威利斯 Bruce Willis 饰）是一名心理医生，这个特殊的职业让他接触过许多精神抑郁生活压抑的病人，他们的压力在无形之中也转嫁到了比尔的身上，终于，当病人蜜雪儿（Kathleen Wilhoite 饰）在比尔眼前坠楼身亡后，比尔意识到，休息的时间到了。
