　　该剧讲述在经历人生下坡期的时候，才觉悟到“什么事都无法做成”的，竭力向往做到最佳的普通人们的故事。讲述一事无成的40岁女性，和害怕自己好像什么事都做不成的27岁男性的故事。

　　当代一城市，采薇和丈夫姜劲宇育有一儿一女。十二岁的儿子小强有轻度智障，女儿小雅六岁。姜劲宇因  剧照
　　车祸离开人世，采薇独自抚养两个孩子。采薇被查出患有咽癌，为了将仅有的钱留给孩子而放弃治疗。采薇为小强找特殊学校。因身体原因采薇的求职也屡屡被拒。采薇带着孩子回到了故乡。年后的元宵节这天，采薇又一次晕倒了。经诊断发现癌细胞已扩散，采薇只剩三个月的生命了。关于采薇的病情，小镇的人们由开始的怀疑、猜测到同情、帮助。当小强和小雅明白妈妈即将离开他们的事实后，不停地用各种办法挽留妈妈，希望妈妈永远不要离开。纵然有万分不舍，采薇还是永远离开了她的孩子们，弥留之际，她将小雅和小强分别做了托付：小雅跟爷爷奶奶去大城市发展，小强留在小镇。采薇安详地离开了人世，永远地躺在青山绿水的怀抱里默默注视着她心爱的孩子们。

　　剧中原SNL卡司Pete Davidson将饰演更夸张的虚构版自己，Pete将和SNL老板Lorne Michaels一起担任监制和编剧。
