　　木兰（陈小艺 饰）出生在山东一个贫困的家庭之中，父母因意外不幸双双去世之后，留下年迈的爷爷需要木兰一人照顾。虽然木兰将老人照顾的无微不至，但随着时间的推移，木兰渐渐的将自己耽误成了大龄剩女。年朝阳（范雷 饰）之前经历过一段失败的婚姻，木兰的善良的温柔深深的打动了他，于是他决定向木兰求婚。就这样，木兰带着爷爷，年朝阳带着自己的小儿子，四人组成了新的家庭。
　　哪知道就在举行结婚典礼的这一天，年朝阳的前妻陈艳丽（刘琳 饰）杀了过来，带来了一个嗷嗷待哺的女婴，陈艳丽说这个宝宝是年朝阳的女儿，要求年朝阳担负起做父亲的责任。就这样，木兰又多了一个孩子需要抚养。

　　故事从民国二十六年的北平戏班开始，白云秋随病重的师傅白玉心前来搭班谋生，受尽人情冷暖，幸而有善良的柳凤英照顾帮助，两人遂产生深刻的友情。白玉心和凤英的琴师唐师傅(天鹏)过去有一段未完成的情感，死前终于得到他的原谅，并视白云秋为徒弟照顾收容。凤英的师姐花艳霞一向爱慕唐师傅，但永远无法取代白玉心在唐师傅心中的地位，感情受挫的她为了救戏班众人生计，无所谓的便嫁了韩会长，却也造成唐师傅的更不谅解。性格尖锐圆滑的花艳霞和强硬固执的唐师傅人生观完全抵触，事事冲突，然而多年的相处，之间有着复杂的情愫。
