明治时代后期，有着“不死之身杉元”外号的日俄战争英雄杉元佐一，因故需要筹措金钱而来到了北海道。他无意间听说阿伊努人手中的财宝被抢夺的传闻。据说宝藏秘密被刻在24名越狱犯身上的刺青，寻宝过程之中，杉元遭受到棕熊的袭击，并且被一名阿伊努人少女“阿席莉帕”所救。紧接着，有如呼应杉元的行动一般，从以前就一直以宝藏为目标在暗中行动的“第七师团”以及背负刺青的越狱犯们的行动也开始浮上台面。这场为求一夕致富的生存竞赛，究竟会如何发展……！？
